Ravens guarding Excalibur
Oil on canvas 40x40 cm, grisaille.
Ravens are keeping guard over Excalibur for the King to come. Ravens are very good at keeping traditions, ancient legends and representing the Dark Ages (and perching on things), and this moment quite possibly had its place in a wast intricate pattern of Arthurian Legend that I’m so fond of. So here two of my favourite subjects came together on one canvas.
